We’re partnering with Community Credit Union to offer a new program starting May 2025 which is designed to support employees earning $50,000–$80,000 annually who aspire to become homeowners. All classes are held locally and are completely free to participants. Our 3-part series is designed to provide a pathway to learning about and becoming a homeowner.

1. Homeownership: Is it Right for you?

30 Minute Insight Session

This short introduction helps you understand the pros and cons of owning a home, and helps you explore personal goals and readiness for buying. After the session, you may elect to sign up for a follow-up class depending on where you are in the journey.

We are currently inviting employers to partner with us in sharing this opportunity with their teams—empowering your employees with the knowledge and tools to turn their homeownership dreams into reality.

2. Homeownership: Getting Ready Financially

90 Minute Class with Community Credit Union

This class prepares you for the process of financing a home. It helps you understand your current credit and financial profile, and create a strategy and timeline for getting financially ready to pursue your first home.

3. Homeownership: Transitioning from Renting to Owning

12 Hour Class with Healthy Homeworks

This class helps you understand which housing types and ownership models work for you, how to evaluate potential properties and calculate your true cost of ownership, how to manage and maintain your home, and how to put together a great team to support you throughout the process. Upon completion, you receive a certificate that first generation buyers can use to qualify for Maine Housing’s ‘First Generation Mortgage’ Program (PDF download).
